Description
"This wine has an elegance that belies its youthfulness, whilst also displaying great detail and complexity. The nose presents intense cherry associated with whole berry lift, along with porcini mushroom, dried herbs and hints of cedar. The palate is tight and delicate whilst also having great length. Again cherries dominate the fruits while the tannins have a sinew chewiness and great balance." - Paul Scorpo, Winemaker
"A new name, not a new wine. The Eocene High Density Pinot Noir is now Old Cherry Orchard (the Eocene label continues but without High Density). So to recap, this is 10,000 vines/ha, all Abel clone, 10% whole bunches, fermented wild in concrete and 31 days on skins then aged in French oak, 20% new. A deceptive wine. as its light ruby hue and delicate aromas bely the power it holds and the definition of the savoury yet raw-silk-like tannins. Sweet red cherries, tart rhubarb, spices befitting a souk and acidity tightly holding everything in place." - 95 Points, Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion (2020 vintage)
