The palate is still quite tightly wound, with fine-grained, sinewy tannins. From three blocks – MV6 planted in 2020, 115 planted in 1999, 114 planted in 1999. 30% new oak. There’s 56 Pinot Noir wines reviewed from the Yarra Valley 2024 vintage – HERE – and it seems CM is dominant when it comes to reviews of these wines. That being said, I can only taste what I’m sent, so Giant Steps, Oakridge, Gembrook Hill, Coldstream Hills etc. etc. have all dropped off my radar, albeit ably covered by CM. We all have our specialty topics; like Mastermind.
Strawberry, red cherry, dried herb, a little smoky, some clove and cinnamon. It’s light and sappy, a light grainy grip to tannin, paprika and red fruit, a cool feel to acidity, some orange peel and spice on a slightly tangy finish of good length.
