Description / Reviews

// 100% Tempranillo from a blend of vineyards in the foothills of Sierra de Cantabria

Hand-harvested into small crates, with cluster selection in the vineyard. Aged for 16 months 60% in new American oak barrels and the rest second-use French oak barrels. Vivid cherry red color, it surprises with its high aromatic intensity, characteristic of Rioja Alavesa, with notes of blackberries, raspberries, and red cranberries. These intertwine with pleasant hints of clove, vanilla, roasted coffee, caramel, and sweet licorice. On the palate, it stands out for its balance, finesse, and pleasant mouthfeel, thanks to its soft, approachable tannins that lead to a fruit-forward, expressive finish. Fine, expressive, and well-balanced." - Torre de Ona, Winemaker

"Elegant vanilla, spices, red and black plums, red cherries and a smoky touch. Very fine-grained, creamy tannins. Quite a long, pleasurable Rioja crianza that’s appealing now. Drink now or hold." - 91 Points, Zekun Shuai, James Suckling

"The 2021 Crianza Finca San Martín from Rioja Alavesa aged for one year in French and American oak. A rich garnet-purple in hue, it offers aromas of raspberry, cherry and mild forest floor notes along with caramel and dulce de leche from the oak. Fruity and expressive with a delicate red-fruit-driven palate and gentle grip, this is a precise, appealing Rioja." - 91 Points, Joaquín Hidalgo, Vinous

"There's a juicy grip to the crunchy red fruit drenched in pink citrus. On the palate, the fruit is brighter and more vivid, led by pomegranate, cranberry and red cherry. Firm, fresh tannins with a good acid backbone support the palate throughout, with red apple crunch on the rims." - 90 Points, Ines Salpico, Decanter
