"Royal Oaks and King’s Wood were forests planted by monarchs to build elegant cathedrals and church naves. The beautiful old French and Austrian oak in our foudre vessels helps us make elegant wine by gradually polishing and protecting the brightest, spiciest South facing Shiraz we grow on Yangarra. Sourced from Block 12 which sits on a south-east facing, ironstone sandy outcrop. Picked on the 15th of March. 20% whole bunch, remaining selectively berry sorted and crushed. Open fermenters and on skins for approximately 20 days. A gentle maceration principle of wetting the cap and only draining and returning as required. Wild yeast ferment. Basket pressed with only the lightest pressings included with the free run. Matured in French and Austrian oak 25hL foudre for a total of 18 months. Bottled September 2025. "From the same sand and ironstone block employed each vintage, fermented wild with 20% whole bunches, about 20 days on skins; 2500L French and Austrian foudre for 18 months. Always such a complex nose, fruit intense but with spice and savoury detail. Tapenade, blackberry pastille, cracked pepper, crème de violette, lavender, dark rye bread, bresaola, wild fennel seeds and panforte. So much complex and engaging detail here, layered, available, not cloaked by oak, and never forced. The tannin structure is refined and this is sapid in delivery, made for the table.
