Description / Reviews

"The Balnaves Coonawarra Vineyard was established in 1975 and is situated at the southern end of the Coonawarra Terra Rossa strip. The family, which has been associated with the district since 1855 and Doug, Annette, Kirsty and Pete Balnaves remain fully committed to a high level of ‘hands-on’ involvement. Vintage 2021 had a mild growing season resulting in gradual and even ripening periods for Cabernet Sauvignon. Fruit from our Walker and Dead Morris vineyards was picked in midApril and fermented on skins for 20 days. This wine was matured for 13 months in 36% new fine grain French oak barriques from Berger, Taransaud and Sylvain cooperages. Plush dark mulberry and cassis on the nose. The palate has intense, concentrated fruit complemented by dark chocolate, cedar spice and graphite notes from the oak. A very complex wine with smooth, supple tannins and fruit length reflective of the outstanding vintage." - Winemaker Notes

"Fruit was sourced from the Walker and Dead Morris Vineyards, matured in French oak (36% new) for 13 months. A mix of Berger, Tarasaud and Sylvian cooperages. Cassis berries, dark bilberries and juniper spice. Plush black mulberries and thistle. Black sesame, potting soil and cassia bark. The lift of perfectly ripe cabernet berries is tangible in this elongated palate; it stretches both vertically and lengthwise. Oak allows the compact fruit to unfurl and shine. This will only continue to open and evolve." - 95 Points, Shanteh Wale, Halliday Wine Companion
