Description / Reviews

From the inaugural release of their Pinot Noir back in 1984 - perhaps as quick as any Australian name as reached such a tier - Bass Phillip reached icon status for their thoughtful complex takes on Pinot Noir, and by the early 1990s, layered and highly-ageable Chardonnay. Decades ahead of its time, head vigneron Phillip Jones steered his focus towards a close-planted vine system, aiming for intentionally lower yields so to achieve the highest possible quality. The unfined, unfiltered style was impossible to forget, as well as their uncanny ability to improve over hours in the glass, days in an opened bottle, or indeed eventually, decades in the cellar. April 2020 then swings around, and Bass Phillip was purchased by Burgundian winemaker Jean-Marie Fourrier. This was not simply a kneejerk purchase, but one of great synergy and potential, holding nearly identical winemaking philosophies and qualities.

In celebration of a brilliant Australian wine legacy, now connected so closely to French sensabilities, we’re thrilled to host Ned Goodwin MW come Wednesday the 14th of October, who will be leading a one-off evening masterclass, guiding attendees through the newest releases of 2024 Bass Phillip Estate and Premium labels, as well as the yet-to-be-released 2024 Reserve Pinot Noir. Not only that, they'll be paired up against some magnificent white and red Burgundy from Domaine Fourrier themselves, from famous villages such as Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Volnay and Pommard!

As another very special guest, Gregoire Piochon, Ambassador for Delamotte (who Bass Phillip import into the country) will be present with his own wealth of experience, taking us through a bracket of their mineral-rich memorable champagnes - including a 2015 from Salon!

Limited tickets are available now - please find all the finer details down below. We hope you can be there to experience this incredible lineup that showcases bright flavour density, tannic balance and low intervention perspective.
