Description / Reviews
"Les Combottes, a lieu-dit south of the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, lies halfway up the hill, just below the steep incline of Les Monts Luisants, in a steeply sloping area (5-6%). Ranging in altitude from 271 to 282 meters, this lieu-dit faces due east. The soil changes from east to west.
In the eastern part of the plot, the reddish-brown soil is 40 to 50 cm thick, containing angular-to-rounded limestone fragments. In the western part of the lieu-dit, the soil is rich in fine angular limestone gravel.
The substratum underlying Les Combottes is ocher-colored crinoidal limestone (calcaire à Entroques), rich in debris from marine organisms. To the west, this layer is overlain by bedded limestone scree (grèzes litées), covering the upper part of the slope. This Comblanchien limestone scree is composed of fine angular gravel." - Domaine Dujac, Winemaker
"A very ripe liqueur-like nose speaks of cassis, black cherry and a plenitude of floral nuances. The succulent and punchy flavors possess slightly better density before terminating in a powerful and slightly chewy but long finale. Seysses noted that this was one of the last wines to finish its malo so it's not surprising that it is more primary and backward and my predicted range offers the benefit of the doubt that the finish will better harmonize in time." - 91-94 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound
