Another tempting night of great wine and insight is on the horizon! We now set our sights on the beloved Tuscan house of Fontodi, with Bernardo Manetti (who works closely with his father Giovanni Manetti, the man who has been at their helm since 1979) coming to town on Thursday the 4th of June. We're excited to say he will be joining us in our Education Centre for an evening masterclass (limited seats available!)
Fontodi, established by Dino Manetti in 1968 within Chianti's Panzano township (his family were well-known historically for crafting the very best terracotta tiles for multiple centuries), consistently rank among the very finest wines from Tuscany, with many 98-100 point scores from critics come every release window. When Dino's sons Giovanni and Marco took over in the late 70's, so started a major transformation in approach and viticulture, cultivating a culture and style that marks each of their labels as a unique singular expression of Sangiovese, plus one of the most highly-praised Super Tuscan blends of the modern age in the 'Flaccianello Della Pieve' label. A certified organic estate that stretches over 130 hectares (70 of which are planted with vines), they remain one of our favourite houses from anywhere in Italy, and Bernardo will look to enlighten attendees with the full family story and the passion that has culminated in their name being deservedly placed within the very top tier.
Take a browse below for the evening's full lineup of wines, including an arrival white (old vine Trebbiano) and proceeding brackets that each speak of a particular area. To make things that little bit more dynamic, there'll also be a mystery wine presented towards the end, before we finish off with their beautiful Vin Santo dessert wine. For those faithful to the Chianti cause, or indeed wanting to better understand the region through one of its strongest names, we think this will be one to remember.
