Description / Reviews

"Over the last seven or eight years, Forjas del Salnés has graduated from being one of the young upstarts of Spanish wine to one of its most lauded benchmarks. In a way that echoes much of the best of Spanish wine, the key to Forjas’ process is a return to the origins of the region; before the ascendancy of stainless steel, acid adjustments, and cultured yeasts.

Taking a 200 year old vineyard called Finca Genoveva and the ancient winery built underneath as his blueprint. Rodri sticks to careful organic viticulture, separating old parcels always in the traditional pergola trellising system. The winery is similarly ancestral in production; indigenous yeasts, long ageing, often on lees for extended periods, judicious use of oxidative-aging vessels in the cellar.

Named for the family plot that helped start Forjas del Salnes, ‘Leirana’ is from various parcels around the coastal part of Salnés. All pergola trained, organically farmed." - Cortez Trading, Importer

"The 2024 Albariño Leirana is from Salnés, Rías Baixas. This aged in stainless steel and foudre. It opens with linden, acacia and floral aromas, with hints of spice and peach. The palate is saline, slender and lively, with freshness and subtle complexity. This finishes with a touch of ginger cookie and a granitic texture typical of Salnés. The 2024 is complex and refined." - 94 Points, Joaquín Hidalgo, Vinous
