Description / Reviews
"Hobbs’ magnificent block of gnarled old vines, planted in 1905 are low yielding and produce fruit of the highest quality. Some of the Barossa’s oldest Shiraz, these vines have stood the test of time, consistently providing fruit with complexity and distinct varietal characteristics. The vines are hand pruned and the fruit is handpicked. Vines as precious as these deserve to be hand tended, and they receive all the love and care needed to produce wines built for the long haul." - Hobbs, Winemaker
"A single vineyard planted in 1905, hand-picked, destemmed and crushed, wild yeast fermentation, pressed to new French hogsheads for 2 years. While there's a density to the flavours from soused plums to baking spices, there's also a brightness. The palate is silky and glossy, the tannins plush. All in all, a super fine drink." - 96 Points, Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion
"Bright, youthful purple/red colour, with a tremendously concentrated nose of spicy, peppery, graphite-like blackberry and dark plum, liberally dressed with charred oak. Blackberry jam flavour also permeates the palate, which is alcohol-warmed and almost spirity. The texture is thick and dense and it's verging on syrupy. Lovers of very big reds will go for this, but it is really a bit unbalanced, and not moreish or refreshing." - 91 Points, Huon Hooke, The Real Review
