“The 2019 vintage was extremely unique and special in Martinborough and Hawke’s Bay. With higher-than-average rainfall leading into Christmas and green grass on the hills around, nerves were high that we may be in for another “interesting” vintage. However, the rain dried up and we went into a period of sustained warmth and dry conditions. The fact we had a full water profile prior to this meant that vines went into their veraison state at pretty much the perfect level of comfort and then the dry conditions throughout ripening meant that we had amazing acid retention and flavour development in the whites and perfect phenolic ripeness in the reds. No picking decisions had to be rushed, disease pressure present. It was a dreamy early autumn, and this showed in the level of depth and excitement in the wines. An exceptional vintage” - Julian Grounds, Chief Winemaker

THE WHITES

2020 Te Muna Martinborough Sauvignon Blanc - $24 per bottle ; RRP $27

"It’s a pungent sauvignon blanc and it has the palate power to go with it. Passionfruit, steel and lemongrass characters put on a direct, persuasive display. There’s an overt, positive juiciness here. Indeed, this is the kind of wine that made sauvignon blanc so popular in the first place. It delivers" - 92 points, Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front

2020 Kidnappers Vineyard Chardonnay - $28 per bottle ; RRP $32

"Delicately-scented chardonnay with saline, oyster-shell, citrus, lime, hazelnut and subtle ginger flavours supported by refreshing acidity that helps drive a lengthy finish. A vibrant, high energy chardonnay." - 93 points, Bob Campbell, The Real Review

2019 Les Beaux Cailloux Chardonnay - $119 per bottle ; RRP $130

"Aromas of honey and grilled peach, as well as gun flint and grapefruit. Some toasty oak and lemon, too. The palate has layered, concentrated and intense but fresh aromas of ripe peach, yellow grapefruit and lemon. Such power and poise is rare. Drink or hold. Screw cap." - 95 Points, Nick Stock, JamesSuckling.com

THE REDS

2018 Te Kahu Merlot Cabernet - $30 per bottle ; RRP $35

“This has a very rich plum nose with mulberry and well-integrated, spicy French-oak character. The palate has such well-judged balance and even shape. Super fresh and vibrant red plums and mulberries abound. The tannins are so smooth and layered. A thoroughly respectable Kiwi claret! A blend of merlot, cabernet sauvignon, malbec, cabernet franc and petit verdot. Drink or hold." - 94 points, James Suckling

2018 Hawke's Bay Syrah - $32 per bottle ; RRP $36

"With such gorgeous hues of deep purple and red, the Hawkes Bay Syrah is a mainstay in our store's shiraz section for good reason; this 2018 drop was not only lauded by our staff, but has had numerous customers coming back to express their love for its flavours of blackberry, lavender, and black pepper, matching marvellously with lamb, wagyu, or other favourite household red meat dishes. Just perfect to open now while you're waiting for the Le Sol to settle in the cellar!" - The Wine Emporium

2019 Martinborough Pinot Noir - $32 per bottle ; RRP $36

“A wine of such effortless enjoyment and indelible flavour. Delicate, fragrant notes of cherry and red berries come through at the forefront, treating the palate to some beautifully weighted, balanced tannins, before finishing with just the perfect amount of spice, and a short but delicious spark of vanilla and mellow oakey structure. A go-to recommendation for many of our staff, this great value drop will pair well with roasted duck, mushroom pizza, as well as fresh risotto or pasta dishes." - The Wine Emporium

2019 Sophia Merlot Blend - $115 per bottle ; RRP $130

"A blend of merlot, cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon from Gimblett Gravels. Supremely elegant wine with an array of dark berry and spice flavours. A youthful wine from a top vintage and with masses of cellaring potential. This really is a classic." - 97 Points, Bob Campbell, MW

2019 Aroha Pinot Noir - $130 per bottle ; RRP $145

"This has hit an impressive trajectory with very well-curated, fresh blueberry, red-cherry and black-cherry aromas, swathed in sweet baking spices and fresh-tilled earth. The palate has sleekly defined tannins, carrying intense, ripe blueberry and red-cherry flavors, amid deeply buried spice. Impressive, this is the finest Aroha to date. Drink or hold. Screw cap." - 97 Points, Nick Stock, JamesSuckling.com

2019 Le Sol Syrah - $130 per bottle ; RRP $145

"A very impressive and impactful expression of syrah from the cooler climes of Hawke’s Bay, this offers red plum and blackberry, as well as pepper, violets, dry spices and stones. Very fragrant and complex. The palate is intense, with real purpose and direction to the clean-cut tannins. Long, pure darker-berry flavors abound. On form. Drink over the next eight years. Screw cap." - 95 Points, Nick Stock, JamesSuckling.com
