Great Value Italian Wine Specials & Friday Tasting!

Published by The Wine Emporium on 8th Nov 2023

After a quiet Friday last week, we're back at it again and thought we'd put together a special little lineup of some of our very favourite bottles from Italy that sit a terrific value! Kicking it all off with one of our customer favourite Proseccos (Colesel), followed by a well-balanced Fiano di Avellino, the rest of the table will be filled with these delicious reds, hailing from Sardinia, Marche, Tuscany and Piedmont!

Some you may have loved in the past, like the Ciu Ciu Montepulciano blend, our exclusive Ridolfi Rosso di Montalcino, or Vietti's Perbacco Nebbiolo! Elsewhere, there's the new arrival from San Guido (home of Sassicaia) sitting at a great price, a popular Cannonau from Sardinia, and finally a classic Chianti expression!

We can't wait to show these all off on this Friday (10th) afternoon, running from 4 til 6pm, and to show just how impressive the value here is, and making for perfect comfy end-of-week drinking at the same time!

Colesel Noai Prosecco NV - $24 on offer this week ; $27 RRP

"Colesel, a steep and tiring hill in the heart of the Cartizze area. A land filled with vines, where the hand of Man still carries its weight. Colesel, a society that combines the vinedresser’s persistence with the culture of tradition; the tenacity of work with the innovation of knowledge. A place that teaches you patience. That teaches you to wait. It is our land. Rows of vines like seats in the stalls of nature’s theatre. It is our land. A stage that cannot be reproduced in any other area of the world. An original show guaranteed to go on stage every year. Straw yellow color. Fine and persistent perlage, with abundant froth. Fruity bouquet with a dry taste. Crunchy and zippy little Prosecco, perfect for an apéritif or an afternoon picnic! It will also shine in a Spritz!" - Importer Notes

2022 Cantine di Marzo Fiano di Avellino - $35 on offer this week ; $39 RRP

"The wine is pale yellow with light green reflections. To the nose it presents an aromatic pallet beginning with a distinctive note of pear which evolves into banana and exotic fruits. Then a final bouquet of white flowers mainly jasmine and lily emerges. In the mouth an initial taste of almond gives way to the floral nature of this wine. The aroma of white flowers settles around the palate leaving a feeling of freshness and a taste of lime with notes of wild flowers. This wine matches beautifully with sushi, light dishes of white meat in sauce, most Neapolitan dishes including fried vegetables and fishes. Great as an aperitif wine." - Producer Notes

2022 Ciu Ciu Piceno Bacchus Sangiovese/Montepulciano (Marche region) - $23 on offer this week ; $26 RRP

"This ruby red wine, with purple shades tending to orange is a product of Montepulciano and Sangiovese vines that are carefully grown on the Marches hills. The wine is harmoniously delicate and tannic. It is dry, full bodied and tastes faintly tannic. It expresses its finest characteristics between the first and the second year of its life, although further maturation gives it a greater equilibrium and smoothness." - Winemaker Notes

2021 Poderi del Paradiso Chianti Colli Senesi - $25 on offer this week ; $28 RRP

A classic Tuscan bouquet of red fruits, deep spices, and flavourful flicks of tannin. This will pair perfectly with pizza or pasta dishes, bringing a touch of grip alongside its lovely notes of cherry, blackberry, and touches of earth - Our Notes

Fermentation and maceration for 3-4 days in a Rotovinificatore at controlled temperatures. Malolactic fermentation. Aged in barrels for 20 Hl. And in second use barrels for 8-12 months. Ruby red, intense aroma of fruit, harmonious and persistent in the mouth." - Winemaker Notes

///

2021 Sella & Mosca Cannonau di Sardegna - $26 on offer this week ; $30 RRP

"A varietal and a wine that symbolizes Sardinia, Cannonau is one of our crown jewels. Cultivated with extra care, it enjoys the warm, sandy soils it grows in, swept clean by the prevailing northeast wind. A wine that expresses intensity and warmth, combining delicate floral and ripe fruit notes with the more classic tones of mediterranean vegetation. Ample and complex bouquet, in which violet, rose, cherry and currant encounter elegant nuances of spice. In the mouth the wine is full, robust, warm and generous yet well balanced, fresh and deep. The finish is persistent, with a silky texture." - Winemaker Notes

2020 Ridolfi Rosso di Montalcino - $43 on offer this week ; $49 RRP

// TWE Exclusive!

"100% Sangiovese. Northeast side of Montalcino Hill, 300 mt above sea level. Medium texture soils rich in clay, marine fossils and, in the highest part, Alberese (weathered sandstone). Vineyard cultivated following the organic agricolture principles. The grapes are de-stemmed and fermented in stainless steel tanks, about 50 days of maceration. 12 months in large slavonian oak barrels with a capacity of 25-35 hl, and then at least 4 months of bottle aging. Red mature fruits, on the nose with pleasant spicy aromas . The mouth is elegant and well balanced with a pecuiar freshness. Good persistence. Pair with meat-based sauces, poultry dishes, risotti." - Winemaker Notes

2020 Tenuta San Guido Le Difese - $46 on offer this week ; $53 RRP

// 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Sangiovese (From the home of Sassicaia!)

"A lively and serious wine. It is an extremely pleasant, smooth, and versatile wine that welcomes with grace, the selection of grapes while it exemplifies its qualities when paired with food. Le Difese takes its name from the teeth of the wild boar, depicted in gold on the label. The presence of Sangiovese, which determines its character, gives Le Difese a clear personality, it is a wine partly produced with French grapes that does not renounce its Tuscan backbone. It is well suited with food pairing and invites conviviality." - Winemaker Notes

2020 Vietti Perbacco Langhe Nebbiolo - $52 on offer this week ; $60 RRP

"Medium deep ruby color. Quite intense and generous fruity nose (red berries) along with floral and spicy notes, a hint of menthol and hard candy. On the palate medium bodied, showing notable intensity while retaining an essentially mid-weight style. Strong, intense and quite powerful when young, evolving to a complex and elegant, very well balanced wine with ageing. The tannins are harmoniously integrated in the fruit structure of the wine. Long lasting aftertaste with good freshness." - Winemaker Notes

“I can’t think of too many estates in Piedmont that have raised the bar higher than Vietti has over the last decade or so. Virtually every wine that emerges from these cellars is outstanding, and many are profound… an unprecedented level of consistency and quality across their entire range.” - Antonio Galloni, Vinous
