Shaw + Smith Single Vineyards Offer

Shaw + Smith Single Vineyards Offer

Published by The Wine Emporium on 21st Jun 2022

Shaw & Smith, and their enviable track record of high-calibre releases almost need no introduction to Aussie wine lovers by now - however, we simply couldn't help ourselves with these new single vineyard drops. The two Lenswood wines offer deep, fragrant layers of fruit with memorably savoury finishes, while the Balhannah Vineyard Shiraz brings the structure and aromatic touch, no doubt a result of the clay, ironstone, shale, and quartzite soils its so lovingly grown on. For us, it stands among the best releases coming out of Adelaide Hills, and the yearly allocation tends to be relatively small, so be sure to either give these a go or a spot in your cellar before they're gone!

2020 Lenswood Vineyard Chardonnay - $85 per bottle ; $95 RRP

“Light, bright colour leads into a refined bouquet of straw/toast, Weetbix, smoked charcuterie and a subtle lemony background. Exceptional refinement as well as intensity, and there’s a backing of subtly gripping tannin and the faintest trace of bitterness, while the overall impression is deliciously mouth-watering and delicate, lemon/citrusy and long. The oak is nigh invisible. A top food wine.” - 96 Points & 5 Stars, Huon Hooke, The Real Review

2019 Lenswood Vineyard Pinot Noir - $85 per bottle ; $95 RRP

“The type of taut, edgy Pinot Noir the Adelaide Hills has struggled to capture, despite the region being heavily planted to the variety. This is a model of winemaking restraint, allowing the vineyard to shine, with fleshy cherry and a hint of tart mandarin providing comfort, though its firm acidity and stalky grip ensures good structure and svelte line” - 97 Points, David Sly, Decanter

2019 Balhannah Vineyard Shiraz - $85 per bottle ; $95 RRP

For structure, for shape and for length this wine cannot be faulted. It feels silken until the sheets of fine-grained tannin shoot through, and then it feels like a class act, full stop. Woodsy spice, florals, black cherry, dark chocolate and plum, with a subtle, cool, alpine herb note. It feels quality from start to finish and while it’s not overly intense it gives the clear impression that it will age like an absolute treat." - 94 Points, Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
