"Whilst forays into Bordeaux varieties don't exactly land in our winemaking comfort zone, the opportunity to work with the last vintage of Star Lane Merlot while the property was on the market was too good an opportunity to pass up. We've intended this to be 'fruit-pure luncheon claret' and the drinker should expect absolutely honest varietal notes in an easy drinking frame. The vines have since been top worked to Chardonnay, so this is very much a one-off release." - Vignerons Shmolzer & Brown, Winemakers
"From Star Lane vineyard, and as described by Tess Brown, the last of merlot before grafting took those vines to chardonnay. Beechworth merlot, let’s go.
A soft, mellow, supple red that leans into merlot’s plummy goodness, chocolate reflections, sweet spice, minty notes, blood orange and garam masala spice. Medium weight but kind of feels warmer and fuller, the pillowy nature of the wine so appealing, the finish long and velvety. Geez, it does the variety well. Such an ease of drinking. Right on." - 92 Points, Mike Bennie, The Wine Front
